Guess : the Soundcard (and the IDE connector on it) are configured by a
M$-program at bootup, so it only works after that program has run. Did
you try installing the CD drive on a different controller ? Did you try
and find the corresponding program for Linux ??? A GOOD hardware (e.g.
OpenHardware compliant) should at least have a doc which explains howto
do that. etc...
