Get StarOffice 5.0. It's a big download (70meg) but worth the wait. Free for single
user. Does everything that msOffice 97 does. Install may not be easy depending on your
hardware (S3 virge video card) and Linux dist. (Libraries, etc), but help is available.

Or if you have slower hardware you might try Andrew (available with most distributions
or at Sunsite). Its a capable word processor with spreadsheet, etc. And I've installed
it on several machines with no complaining about missing libraries, etc.
