Will APC 500 shutdown my system?

Hello list:

We get a lot of power outages in my area. Just yesterday I decided to
buy a battery backup. I bought the APC 500. Will it shutdown my box? I'm
running Slackware 3.5. Thanks in advance, Ronald.
