Did you do anything different when you got to the Xkb (keyboard) section of
the config program (xf86config? xf86Setup? or does RH have something
different for setup?)?
Anyway, one thing to try is to look in XF86Config for the section that
begins with
Section "Keyboard"
and see is there is a problem there. (man XF86Config talks about the options
for this section and others.) You might try uncommenting the line that reads
XkbDisable
This will turn off k'bd remapping and may give you back your bs key.
