I dont know if it would work for that sort of programs, however, i crete a
script which would run program 1 or program 2.
rename the old file to program-1 and the new program to program-2.
set the libs with LD_PRELOAD and or CLASSPATH in the script to reflect to
the version which is needed.
then just execute program-1 or -2
If you would like an example of a script to do this sort of think let me
know. It might or might NOT help you. You can only try.
