setup:
RedHat Linux 5 (Huricane)
X windows (FVWM)
apache 1.2 or 1.3
I am usually logged in as root

during start up of my system I see:
starting httpd: httpd

once I log in and start up Xwindows I start up top.

I see the first instance of httpd (root:root) and then numerous child(ren)
as httpd (nobody:nobody).

Netscape (browser) will not find anything at the loopb. address or
'localhost' or anything.

fingering through the HOWTO's and such I see references to various files
such rc.inet, etc. My system does not exactley match.

I have checked the usual suspects etc/hosts, and they are all configure to
localhost and localhost.localdomain. the loopback addr is indeed 127.0.0.1

I have used the apache configurator in X and played around by hand. I now
have various httpd and httpd.confs lying around.

Obviously Linux is stil starting one up in its boot. I found the
httpd.conf for the one that comes up at startup - I am assuming it is the
oldest one on my system.

How do I even start to debug this?

I do not think this is purely an apache issue.

thanks for your time
