Hi!
I have this email account. And I want to do all my mail in Linux. So I
have to set up a PPP connection with the dial-up server. For that I
installed pppd 2.2.0. Than I read pppd man page and PPP-HOWTO as well as
PPP-FAQ. I set all the files according to PPP-HOWTO. I put in
/etc/ppp/options both debug and kdebug 7. I know this will fill my logs.
But I'll remove these settings when will go well.
In /var/log/messages I get from pppd: PAP authentication failure for
box.mailbox.ro.
box.mailbox.ro is supposed to be the server where the mail accounts are
although my mail address there can be [EMAIL PROTECTED] or
[EMAIL PROTECTED] I'm authtenticated by the server. What can go
wrong? Actually what should mean to me that line 'PAP authentication
failure for box.mailbox.ro'? I put in /etc/hosts.allow the line 'ALL: .ro'
and I don't know how does it get the name box.mailbox.ro. Because in
/etc/resolv.conf it's mentioned just mailbox.ro and the dns ip address.
Also: is the name before the dns ip address is relevant? I mean both
box.mailbox.ro and mailbox.ro lead to that error.
I can't get help from the ISP. They have a Linux server, but they told me
that they never tryed to connect via Linux.
Should I ask on the ppp list at vger.rutgers?

        TIA,
        Raider
