The site that Ray referred me to (www.56k.com) referred me to a line test number you
can call with your existing v.34 modem. I called and it declared my line unusable
for 56k. I don't know what that is worth and the line-test came with all sorts of
disclaimers (possible to get incorrect results). But on top of that with all the
other experiences I've been having, I'm pretty sure its bum phone lines... ;-(.
