This is because your linux boxes want to do a reverse IP search.
You have configured your box to do dns queries (mandatory if you use
internet) so when a host tries to ftp to your linux box, the linux bow
tries to get the name of this ftp client host through dns and wait till
it sees no good answer comes from the dns server.
If your client host is local, you might resolve your problem by adding
its IP address to your /etc/hosts on the linux side. This way the linux
box won't have to do a dns query to resolve the name ...
Hope this helps

Objet: FTP is slow
When I FTP to either of my RHL 5.2 boxes it takes an aweful long time
to get to the login prompt. I heard this might be a configuration
setting or there might be a tweak. Does anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks.
