glibc 2.0.7?

I tried isntalling the new version of gtk and it says it needs 2.0.7 or greater
of glibc, I was wondering if anyone knew what it did?  I assume it is a
graphics library.

What is the differance between glibc and libc?  Is there any docs that
explain what all the files in lib are used for and why I have or should have 
this or that one?  I haven't seen any books that go into real detail about em.
