Hi Wayne,
  If you like Perl, try getting into Perl Tk, or if you would like a
language similar to Perl, take a look at Tcl/Tk.  Tk is a set of tool
objects (buttons, controls, etc.) and make x-windows development very easy.
I prefer Tcl/Tk myself, as there is a shell available for windows.
Therefore, your X-windows application will also run on that Microsoft crap
that everyone talks about..
