well, I've discovered that the text-based scripts work just fine when I am root. Needless to say, I don't want to log in as root every time I want to fire up the old pppd. In light of this, I would hypothesize a permissions problem. I've tried modifying pap-secrets (which it complained about), but to no avail. Just as a reminder, my problem is that non-GUI PPP dialers (wvdial, right now) will not work (outside of root, now), but GUI dialers (kppp, in this case) will. TIA! -Chris
