Hi gang,
I am playing around with Xnest. I can get it to run with something like "Xnest
:1" and then start an xterm in it like this "xterm -display :1". However, when
I try to start Xnest at a different depth from the Xserver I'm calling it from,
ie, from a 16 bpp server, I enter "Xnest -depth 8 :1" it fails to start and I
get:

"Fatal server error:
Uable to find desird default visual."

I have tryed the "depth" "class" and the "cc" option and get the same results.
I have tryed switching from the XF86_S3V server to several others, with no
change in the results.

Xnest's man page states that Xnest need not run in the same depth as the server
from which it is called, although the server must *support* the depth named when
Xnest is called. I know my servers support 8, 16, and 24 depths as I can start
them at any of these depths.

Do I need a different server than what is available with XFree86, or am I
missing something here?

My ultimate goal is to start my main server at 16 bpp, and start up Xnest to
run apps that will only run at 8 bpp. I know I can do this by switching to
another VT and starting another instance of my sever at 8 bpp, but I want to
avoid that hassel. Any ideas?

Thanks!
