My experience with the AWE64 series (at least the type 4 I have) is that
this is an exercise in futility. I used OSS (www.opensound.com), however,
the 2.1x kernels (now 2.2x) seemed to support it directly. i.e. there
wasn't support in 2.0.x but there was in later kernels.
