Ray answered your questions.
However if its an IDE drive i would (myself) just throw it away, why do i
say that,?.
1) IDE drives have a certain amount of hidden space, that space is resurved
for compensating bad sectors which all IDE drives get, its a way of fooling
you to think your disk has no problems, now when that space has been depleted
you start to get errors and see all sorts of funny things happening.
2) They will possably start to appier very quickly now, and they WILL cause
more corruption to your filesystems quicker that you think.
