I haven't used awk in years (and I never used sed - but you want awk,
anway). Back when I did, I found the O'Reilly book _Awk and Sed_ invaluable.
BTW, I no longer use awk because I find perl offers the same functionality
(better, really) without the headaches of shell scripts + awk. You might
think about using perl for this project (even if that means learning perl).
