Thanks to all who have helped me determine if I have a winmodem. I'm
now sure it is not, but I won't quite believe it until I make my first
linux connection.
Linux' bootime messages do report something like:
tty01 is 0x02f8 UART 16550A...
Setserial /dev/ttyS1 reports something similar.
Within Win95 I have shutdown and restarted in MSDOS mode and connected
to my ISP with a DOS communications program (Crosstalk).
My DOS/Win95 POST screen reports: Serial Port(s) : 3F8,2F8,3E8
and I only have one Plug and Play ISA Device:
a Creative SB AWE64 PnP.
So far everything looks good.
