When I bought my soundcard/cdrom several years ago, my first
priority was compatibility. So I spent a bit more to get
the official SoundBlaster product. It is therefore somewhat
ironical that my cdrom drive appears to be incompatible with
Linux.

I am the proud owner of a Creative CD200 cdrom drive. This
drive works perfectly in DOS and Windows, but it refuses to
work in Linux. I have tried the RedHat auto-detect and the
Slackware auto-detect. I have tried SBPCD. They all fail.

Please note, this is the CD200 drive, not the CD200F. According
to the SBPCD FAQ, that F makes a big difference. Namely, the
CD200F works under SBPCD, but the CD200 doesn't. Similarly the
Slackware setup tells me that the CD200 is not fully supported
yet - only audio will work.

I'm getting sick of having to exit Linux every time I want to
access the cdrom. And then having to transfer the files via my
small DOS partition. Can anybody help? Is there an alternative
to SBPCD which might work on my drive? Or is there a way to use
the DOS drivers via dosemu (or something like that)? Or should
I be thinking of moving the cdrom to my old 386sx20 and accessing
it via ethernet?

Any comments on this topic would be appreciated.

Cheers,
Steven
