Have you tried the smbmount program that comes with 2.0.2?
You have to configure with --with-smbmount when you run configure.
Note that the syntax has changed from the smbmount that came from
the smbfs package. The syntax with the samba smbmount is not (yet)
compatible with automount. I've got a front end script intended to do
the parameter syntax translation to let the samba smbmount work with
autofs.

I'm now on the Samba Team and I (try to) maintain the smbmount program.
