Sure, anything that works is reasonable! :-)
The Linux FAQ (or was it the installation guide?) gives a more standard
outlay of partitions with a smaller / partition and perhaps a couple of more
partitions.

Have you checked out the DNS How-To? There exists a pretty good tutorial
on how to install bind.
I'd suggest stopping by two sites:

You'll find plenty of documentation at both of those sites. Highly
recommended is the generic Linux FAQ (good light/skim reading material) and
the various How-Tos.
