You can probably get some help here, but you will need to tell us a bit more.
1. What was the error message? Not "something like" the error message.
2. When does it appear? At boottime? In response to an lpr command (worded
how)? Sometime during setup (when)?
3. What /dev is the driver trying to print to? /dev/lp0? /dev/lp1? /dev/lp2?
4. During the boot sequence, what does the kernel report about detecting
parallel ports? Or, if easier to spot, what does the BIOS tell you about
them (on the screen before LILO starts)?
5. Have you tried connecting the printer without the ZIPdrive passthru in
the way? That's the obvious way to identify or eliminate it as the source of
te problem.
6. What does the default printer entry (begins with "lp") look like in
/etc/printcap?
