I don't have much money, so I'd go with what I had rather than waiting. 
In general, it is easy to upgrade things on a working system, and once
you have some experience you have a better idea of what you want and what
you'd just as soon do without.

Deirdre is right, though.  You don't want to upgrade glibc on a working
RedHat system:  as the install tools depend on what they are upgrading,
they will knock themselves flat, and _all_ system commands will stop
working.  If you're lucky, ldconfig will vail you out of this situation. 
It has worked for me,  but this is a SlackHat based diy system..  It
shouldn't be that hard though to boot up an install floppy and  just
install the library.  Slackware has a way to do it, I'd be very surprised
if it was hard to do with RedHat.

Anyway, we'll burn that bridge when we come to it.
