text mode. The *ONLY* thing that I use in X is Netscape Communicator, if
I need to see graphical web pages. However, my ftp server, web server,
etc. all run just fine while I'm in text mode.
KDE runs on top of X. As does WINE. They are programs that you run in X
(well, KDE is a collection of programs in X).
