At a command prompt do a "free" command to see how much memory Linux is
reporting.  On many machines non-windows OS(s) and sometimes even NT cannot
"correctly" detect the full amount of memory in a machine.  You should see
about 2M less than you physically have.  Many Compaqs only report 16M and some
other machines never more than 64M
