Before you give 'make install' you'll have to give a 'make' at
least - AFAIK tar.gzips are the sources and rpm's come as executables.
After installing the executables, it would be a good idea to check wether
the documentation was installed as well. Than you can erase the source
tree. But keep the archive just in case.
