hi linuxers,

i've just upgraded to kernel 2.2.1 and all is working fine. now i want to
upgrade to glibc.
according to the 'Change' file in the kernel 2.2 distribution, i need glibc
version 2.0.7pre6. i downloaded this source and run 'configure'. i got the
following errors:

GoodNight:/extern2/for_linux-2.2.0/glibc-2.0.7pre6$ configure
loading cache ./config.cache
checking host system type... Invalid configuration `i586-pc-linux-gnu': machine
`i586-pc-linux' not recognized

*** The GNU C library is currently not available for this platform.
*** So far nobody cared to port it and if there is no volunteer it
*** might never happen. So, if you have interest to see glibc on
*** this platform visit
*** http://www.gnu.org/software/libc/porting.html
*** and join the group of porters
GoodNight:/extern2/for_linux-2.2.0/glibc-2.0.7pre6$

this is strange because the README file of the glibc distribution states
that it runs under:
         i[3456]86-*-linux-gnu Linux-2.0 on Intel

what's wrong here?
has anyone experiences with upgrading to glibc?

thank you for any help,
gernot
