Hi All,
I have been looking at this list for a little while but I still cannot
figure out what is wrong with my SB AWE64 PnP card.
(note: I can play .wav files without pbm, only the midi/wave
synthetizer part of the card is not recognized).
I am running RH5.2 and I have upgraded the Kernel to 2.2.1 (this
incl. upgrade to new RPMS from RH www site). I also have KDE 1.1
installed.
Pbm #1:
"pnpdump >/etc/isapnp.conf"
creates a file that contains definitions ONLY for my USR
winmodem!?!? The AWE64 is not detected. I tried to swap the
card around in the box but no success. Since there is only
2 ISA slots in my box there is only so much swap I can do :-)
Pbm #2
"sndconfig" does not work either but it seems it is a common
pbm for quite a few people out there.
If pnpdump fails to generate the data I need to set up the midi section
of the AWE64 at boot time, what can I do?
(in fact I could built an isapnp.conf from scratch based on examples
I have seen but how do I get the serial number and so on that pnpdump
puts in isapnp.conf?)
Can I have other parameters in the conf.modules (ie another options
line for the midi part, alias awe_wave)?
At boot time, it says that a SB card is found at 0x220 (so far so good)
then the next line says: "AWE32 not found".
** details about my config. **
The "make xconfig" for sound looks like below:
Select in "Sound":
- "Sound card support"
- "100% Sound Blaster compatibles (SB16/32/64, ESS, Jazz16) support"
- "Generic OPL2/OPL3 FM synthesizer support"
- &FM synthesizer (YM3812/OPL-3) support"
-"OSS sound modules"
** all as [M] (module) **
Select in"Additional low level sound drivers":
- "Additional low level sound drivers" as [y]
- "AWE32 synth" as [M] (module).
(I tried with all options compiled directly into the Kernel but it was the same
thing, .wav files played OK and .mid did not and the same "AWE32 not found"
msg was displayed at boot time).
I also got the awesfx program from:
- The sfxload program is now in /usr/bin.
I also got the synthgm.sbk from:
- it is now in /usr
My /etc/conf.modules looks like this:
alias sound sb
alias midi awe_wave
post-install awe_wave /usr/bin/sfxload /usr/synthfm.sbk
options sb io=0x220 irq=5 dma=1 dma16=5 mpu_io=0x330
/sbin/lsmod shows the following:
sb 26280 0
uart401 5640 0 [sb]
sound 57112 0 [sb uart401]
soundlow 208 0 [sound]
soundcore 1968 8 [sb sound]
Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Fred
