It's getting late, so I'll just give you the simple solution. Connect
your linux hd as primary, the win9x as secondary. Boot linux. at the
end of /etc/lilo.conf add the lines:

other = /dev/hdb1
  label = <your pet name for windows>
  table = /dev/hdb

Make sure you have a delay = option in the global options in
lilo.conf. Run lilo. Reboot. When you see lilo, hit a shift key. It
will respond,

lilo boot

tell it either <your pet name for windows> or <what you called linux>,
as the spirit moves you, or if you press tab, it will remind you
what you called them.

This assumes your hd's are ide on the first ide channel. If they are
scsi, substitute sda and sdb for hda and hdb.

There are at least 131071 other ways to do this, but I can't think of
any that don't require you to upgrade to redhat 5.2 and install loadlin,
or patch a kernel, or ... Those are in future lessons in the school of
hard knocks.  :-)

This means exactly what it says. You powered off the machine without
telling linux, so it is afraid you may have damaged something and you
will have to wait while it repairs it.

Before you power off the machine, login as root and do

shutdown -h now

This will allow the filesystem to complete any pending writes and
unmount itself cleanly. It doesn't take long, and will save you a lot
of time on your next boot.

This mail client runs on Wine. Your mileage may vary.
