So I am not alone, I dumped 4.5 for 4.08 because it either crashed or
ate too many CPU cycles too often

To kill the fat bastard, open an xterm do a ps then
kill -KILL pid
do this after using xkill to remove the windows. I do this 2 3 times a
night and it seems to work. An interesting observation is that while
taking up 95+ % of CPU my system does not seem to be noticeably slower -
go figure
