I'm using RH 5.2 and thought I'd give the recent Gnome 1.0 a try. I
downloaded and installed it (not properly, it seems!) but I don't know
how to get it started.

Is there a command I have to give, i.e., ./gnome, etc., or do I have to
put in one of the rc files? I've tried reading as much as I can but to
no avail.

Furthermore, I am now unable to start Usernet either from the menu or
from the xterm window. Using the menu does nothing when I select
'Usernet', and when I give the usernet command I get the following:
"libgtk.so.1: cannot open shared object file" (The same thing happens
when I try to open Disk Management through the menu.) What is it, what
closed it, and how I can get it to open? I haven't tried any other
programs to see if they're working, but that seems secondary at the
moment...

Is there a way to back out of the (seemingly) mangled Gnome installation
at this stage?
