You need to run lilo after doing some editing in /etc/lilo.conf.
that's the rule in order to make lilo notice what you modify.

This is explained in the man page. I know it's a trick that only
advanced users know it but I'll share it with you 'man lilo'.

RH asks wether to put lilo in the MBR, in the Linux root partition
or the floppy boot record.
