Lighter? There is pine. Which can be set to get the mail from
the server. Or mail/mailx just to do the mail. But they are text
oriented. I use pppd to connect to my ISP, than sendmail sends the mail
via STMP, and fetchmail takes the pop3 mail from my ISP and gives it to
procmail which sorts it and filters it.
