Thats correct, its NOT a tar archive, tar archives have tar or tgz in the
suffix, GUILG00.GZ or possably you mean guilgoo.gz is a "gzip'ed" file.
To unpack this format use, 'gzip -d guilgoo.gz'
'man gzip' for more details.
You can still use 'zless' to read the file before unpacking.
