Actually, '_' is quite common in any *nix.  However, for the original
problem, I would, once in LINUX, merely change the name back to what it
was supposed to be, 'linux-2_2_3_tar.gz', and try that.  I have done this
for much smaller things.  I wouldn't think the size should matter, but I
have been wrong before.
