Does "which fortune" find the executable? Alternately, can you run fortune
by specifying its full path name (on my system, that's /usr/games/fortune,
but your setup may be different)?
IF the answers are no and yes respectively, thenyou need either to add
fortune's directory to the PATH env variable (you can do this in
/etc/profile if you use bash) or to mv (or symlink) fortune to a directory
in your path (the natural candidate is /usr/local/bin).
If that's not it ... afraid I can't offer any other guesses based on what
you've reported to us.
