Well, I don't know which XFree86 you are running,
but I had to get two files from the net and install them
on my SuSE 5.2 system.
The files are:
1. xmatrox.rpm
2. xsuseconfig.tgz
The fastest way of finding these files is by using
the ftp search-engine http://ftpsearch.lycos.com/?form=medium
The xsuseconfig file replaces the original xf86config tool.
When you get to where you are asked to look at the card
database, you answer yes and hit ENTER until you see the
server for the G200 card (I think it was no. 256)
Then later on you should choose the server for the
card (Choice 5.) instead of the svga-server.
Hope you get it working.
I have used these files successfully on both RedHat 5.2 and SuSE 5.2
But of course the Accelerated-X server from XiG which I now employ,
really gets the best out of these cards with overlays up to
1600x1200 and 24 and 32 bit color depth. The display of the KDE
desktop and all applications is stunning with this X-server.
As far as I understand, overlays let different applications
run together while using different color depths.
The SuSE Xfree Server has a small problem with Netscape and
Word Perfect at 24 bit color depth. So I had to use the 16 bit
or 32 bit color mode if these applications were to be displayed
correctly.
I also use the G200 for Warp4 and Win95.
