I dont know if i am correct, however you have a "Mitsumi FX400" yes i left
the E out, as i belive that is not a factor here. In the early days of
Linux, Mitsumi drives only had a seperate interface (non ATAPI/IDE) and
therefor had special drivers called, MCD for single speed and MDCX for 
multispeed(s).
What you have "i belive" is a IDE/ATAPI Mitsumi drive, which works with the
normal IDE/ATAPI CDROM support, so the answer "i belive" to your problem is 
choose, IDE/ATAPI CDROM in the install procedure and see what happens.

I base my assumptions on /usr/src/linux/Documentation/Configure.help
