If you have read INSTALL and edited MCONFIG to correspond with local
reality, pam should not be a problem. I compiled the beast without any
problems on SlackHat 4.9 (slackware, glibc and pam). What are you using
for libc headers? On RedHat particularly, but perhaps other distros,
you need the libc-devel or glibc-devel or so package to get libc
headers. If you are using libc5, probably you also need the kernel
source or at least kernel headers installed and linked to
/usr/include/linux and /usr/include/asm.
