if you're having probs. w/ the settings, i'd suggest getting oss (the
commercial version w/c can be d/led at www.opensound.com). it should be
able to autodetect your soundcard. once it's installed and working
perfectly, run soundconf then choose "manual configuration" from the menu,
jot down the info, then uninstall it and get alsa instead.
