Mounting errors!!!!

I have tried to install RedHat 5.1 for two weeks and haven't
succeed.............
I encountered this error every time when RH tried to create file system on
my HD.
The error message reads "mount failed: Invalid argument"
Did anyone here encountered this error before and knows how to solve it??

BTW, I am using a empty partition on my HD, and intended to run it together
with Win98.
