WOW. That is a HUGE topic, when I first started I didn't realize HOW huge. X
is "infinitely" configurable. I'd really recommend getting a copy of "X Window
System User's Guide, Volume 3". It is a printed book by O'Rieley and is the
best explanation of X around. I haven't yet found a "intro" website to X, I
think it is rather to daunting for most hobbyist to write about.

The above book covers fonts as well, but a look at the man pages for xset and
xfs should give you a pretty decent understanding. They are handled in a
rather simple fashion.
