That's easy.
Step 1) Read http://metalab.unc.edu/pub/Linux/docs/HOWTO/Kernel-HOWTO
Step 2) Read the README that came with your kernel.
Step 3) Repeat as needed.
The HOWTO really is clearly written. Just take your time and read it
through *BEFORE* you start doing anything. The README that is in the
kernel archive will alert you to anything particular to the kernel
version you are using.
Also, you say you are going to do a 2.2 kernel, but you don't say what
version of Slackware. In that case go *directly* to
http://www.linuxhq.com and read the 2.2 information there. It'll lay
out everything that you must make sure of to do a successfull upgrade to
2.2 as there seems to be quite a number of changes. I'm still on 2.0.36
with no particular reason to upgrade, so I'm not quite up on all the
particulars. But the docs at linuxhq will set you straight on
everything you need.
