I'm putting this reply, and thereby your message, back on linux-newbie, on
the assumption that you just forgot to include it.
As to the pppd question, "debug" and "kdebug 0" are switches for pppd . You
put them either on the script line that calls pppd, as command-line options,
or in the pppd options file (I think /etc/ppp/options).
But these switches rely on syslogd, and it seems not to be working correctly
on your system. I don't know why, but you do need to solve that one first.
(I'd suspect a kernel incompabibility issue, but that's only based on my
recalling that a lot of apps have to be upgraded to go with the 2.2.x
kernels.) Whatever the cause, this is your first problem -- you need a
working syslogd to troubleshoot most anything, and pppd in particular.
Perhaps someone on the list can offer a suggestion?
