I couldn't actually find any documentation on this file. But based on a bit
of testing on my home LAN, it seems to maintain a list of filesystems on one
host that are currently mounted on other hosts (via NFS). Mine has a stale
entry too, BTW, as well as current ones.

If you don't have any filesystems currently mounted on other hosts, you can
probably delete this file with safety. nfsd, or perhaps rpc.mountd, will
update it as needed.
