I've been looking all over (how-to's, faqs, etc) for info on System.map
file. Even in all the books at the a LARGE bookstore (a whole section of
only Linux) but have not located anything on this file.

I know the file is generated during kernel installation. Is it used to
make "/boot/map" during boot? If not, where does map come from? Also, if
trying to run different kernel versions, how do you select which
"System.map" file to use? The man page shows the "map=" under the general
section, not the per-image section.

Where would this information be available?

TIA

Tom
