There are two ways that you can do things: (1) the old way, or (2) the
customized more modern way. (1) is the same on all Linux distros. (2) is
different. You can use linuxconf, gnome-ppp, kppp, slack's pppsetup,
debian's thing, etc.
BTW, why are you using dip? Use pppd/chat... that works for all PPP
connections, and I've found dip to be a bit on the icky side.

Actually the PPP howto and ISP-Hookup howto are the most important... All
you need to know on the serial end is what /dev/ttySx your modem is on.
