Well ... yeah, the PPP HowTo is always a good place to turn to for PPP
problems. But you'll need to look in your logs to see what the actual
problem is (if there is one - see below). See what (if you have a standard
logging setup) /var/log/messages and perhaps /var/log/debug say about the
ppp connection - pppd and whatever dialer you use with it should report some
status and problem messages here.

What exactly does "Netscape doesn't seem to know I'm connected" mean?
Depending on the symptom you see in Netscape, any of several things might be
going on.

1. The PPP connection might not be made properly. Your logs will tell you this.

2. the ppp0 interface might not be the default route. Check that ppp0 is
running with "ifconfig", and check that it is the defualt route with
"route". (See the man pages for details if you need them.) If this is the
problem, add "defaultroute" to your ppp options file (probably
/etc/ppp/options) or to the command-line switches used when you run pppd
(there are too many ways to do this for me to guess which you are using).

3. ppp may be just fine but you may have a DNS problem. See if Netscape
fails to find URLs by hostname but can find them by IP address. If so, you
probably need to add your ISP's nameserver addresses to /etc/resolv.conf .

Other things might be your problem, but this short set are the usual
suspects for beginners.
