File Permissions (Please help)

All,

To try to resolve my user account/permissions dilemma, I changed the
permissions on all files/directories to allow group rwx (and add myself to
the root group). Bad move, very bad move. Now I'm hosed. Does anyone know of
a quick way to restore the file permissions to what they should be (i.e.
what they are upon first installation), or am I just going to have to
reinstall?

If anyone can help here, I'd be extremely grateful.
