APM is unfortunatly an exception to the rule, it is NOT available as a
module, i belive the reason why its not included in the kernel either is
because of so many BIOS problem/limitations, however Iomega is included under
/lib/modules/kernel_ver/scsi and PCMCIA under ./pcmcia.
I see that the ppa driver is not included in some distro's, so if you need
ppa for the Iomega then thats another execption to the rule.
Of course if you choose not to install the kernel modules at installation
time then they wont be there, but they will be on the distribution source
and could always be included afterwards.

How right you are, i mistook make clean for make distclean, i am sorry to
have mislead you.

That i did not know, i have only been using 2.2.x kernels now for a short
while and have not even compiled a new kernel, (yet), that is just the
answer for the above problem.
I used to follow kernel-development, however for the last 2 years i have a
job again after 8 years of disablilty after an accident, now i just dont have
the time to do what i used to.
