(A)  A proxy for each protocol must be set up.  I don't use Windows, so
I'm not sure how they deal with it, but I'm thinking that their proxy only
supports HTTP proxy (and maybe HTTPS proxy, who knows.)  IME, one proxy
per protocol (e.g., one for ftp, one for pop3, one for smtp, one for http,
etc.)

Also, it depends on what program you're using, however place these lines
in ~/.bash_profile or ~/.profile and log out and log back in and try it:

http_proxy=http://192.168.0.1:8080 ; export http_proxy

Do this for each type of proxy.  ftp_proxy, etc.
